SHIFT: A group exhibition of new work in abstraction

Featuring Claudio Kirac, Christine Sharp, Sharna Martorella and Noah North, SHIFT was a one-night-only exploration of abstract painting.

SHIFT brings together four artists, at varying stages of their careers, in a shared practice of abstract art. Showing new works, each artist embraces the theme of shift, with the idea of change as a constant.

About the artists

Claudio Kirac

Claudio Kirac is a contemporary Australian artist creating on the lands of the Kombumerri families of the Yugambeh Language Region. Currently, his work is exploring nostalgia, harmony, memory, shared experience and joy.

Kirac’s approach to creativity is diverse and multi-disciplinary. Using intuitive mark-making and intense colour his works are driven by the energy and emotion he encounters in the everyday, manifesting as abstracted landscapes.

Christine Sharp

Christine Sharp is an Australian artist and author. Her practice includes painting, drawing, photography, writing and book design. Her work is inspired by the radical, living beauty of nature, the seasons, landscape, light and place.

LIGHTWORKS is an ongoing practice and project exploring natural light. The series is inspired by photographs taken most mornings of the sky at dawn and, now, the sky at dusk. The works in this exhibition document and abstract the light and colours seen at sundown, and, on the small light studies on paper, the dates of the sunsets are recorded on the works.

Sharna Martorella

Sharna Martorella is a Gold Coast-based artist & graphic designer. From a young age, she’s found solace in art. Painting is her gateway to escaping an overactive mind and the accompanying relentless thoughts.

Ironically, she finds peace by executing bright, chaotic markings in disordered arrangements onto canvas.

 Noah North

Inspired by the geometric interplay between humans and nature. Noah North is obsessed with perfecting the structure of each of his pieces, a reflection of our harmonious relationship with our surroundings.

Through his work, he aims to reveal the delicate balance that exists in our interaction with the natural world, highlighting the timeless beauty of this connection. Noah North lives and works in the Yugambeh Language Region.
