February 2021: Five things that brought us joy this month

Feburary: short but sweet.

The end of summer has been delightful. A beautiful combination of rain and the Australian heat. Through our community and clients, we’re very lucky to be in constant proximity to some of the most inspiring, talented, creative, and thoughtful people – we hope you find as much joy in their work as we do.

Provider Store

Located in Sydney’s Surry Hills, Provider Store is centered around slowing life down and focusing on what’s important. Founder, Tara Bennet creates and acquires pieces for the home, chosen to be both artful and functional. During her first trip to Japan six years ago Tara was immediately inspired by its incredible heritage and respect for resource preservation, which is felt throughout her space.

We’re very excited to welcome Tara to the AW family as a business development client and look forward to seeing her brand continue to flourish.

Tara created Provider Store to bring to life the friendships and bonds made through her international adventures – celebrating not only the individual items but the stories of the makers and the journey to bring them to life.

Mindful & Co

Thoughtful things for the young ones in your life.

Born out of the innate belief that our mind, body, and spirit are holistically intertwined, Mindful & Co’s mission is to inspire, strengthen, and foster happier, healthier more resilient young minds through mindfulness, with the bigger vision to change the staggering and alarming mental health statistics for young people.

Having spent over two years conducting research on the scientific benefits of mindfulness as a treatment for anxiety and depression as part of her research-based Master’s degree, Mindful & Co Founder, Jacqueline holds the firm belief that mindfulness has the ability to help decrease youth suicide rates and help youths overcome stress, anxiety, and depression.

By instilling the practices of gratitude, self-affirmation, and kindness, and inspiring a future where every child has access to education in self-awareness, she believes together, we can influence and empower the next generation to live the fulfilled life they deserve.

The Split Upstairs

Featuring a mural from our Creative Director Claudio, not to mention a disco ball, sunset views and a killer cocktail menu, it’s easy to see why The Split Upstairs in our new favourite hangout. Our drink recommendation is the Croatia Cult – a delightfully spicy experience you need to have.

A pop-up in Nobby’s Beach, the Split Upstairs has established a reputation and gained our admiration for actively support artists and including art as a key element of their experience.

With all furniture thoughtfully acquired or upcycled, it’s a place where everyone is welcome and where good times are pretty much guaranteed.

Visit ‘Purple is Black Blooming’ by Aaron Chapman at the Gallery DownTown, Murwillumbah

Purple is Black Blooming is an ongoing reflection of childhood and the home, as our experiences inside these spaces have the potential to deliver the foundation for who we become.

Through documentary and fine art photography, and a large sculpture made from the packing boxes used to move from the artist’s childhood home, Chapman tells a deeply personal narrative both mourning and celebrating the colourful imagination of childhood innocence.

Purple is Black Blooming invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences in their childhood home(s) and to consider how these significant physical environments protect intimacy, provide refuge and keep memories.

Gallery DownTown is the annexe of Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre, an initiative of Tweed Shire Council and is supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW.
