GranSlam! is a collaboration between performing arts company Everybody NOW! and aged-care provider Feros Care, two organisations who share a commitment to smashing stereotypes and supporting communities to live more boldly.
The project aims to provide seniors aged 70-98 years young with a platform to share their stories through poetry, which they developed in a series of slam poetry workshops, lead by poet and literary performer David Stavanger.
We developed a bold visual brand and promotional materials to attract participants to the project, while also documenting the workshops and performances to create a record of the life-changing experience.
Art-Work was further commissioned to develop a short film, artistically showcasing the outcome of the initiative.
Throughout the workshops, emerging older poets wrote individual works and also contributed to a group poem guided and mentored by David Stavanger, titled If I Died Tomorrow.
The poem formed the basis of the short film, which was premiered at the Byron Writers Festival.
This performance poetry masterclass and filmmaking project gave senior “wordsmiths of wisdom” the opportunity to say the things they’re thinking and feeling without fear, while embracing creativity, personal experience and defying stereotype of old age.
