The Strand, Coolangatta, has recently undertaken a transformation and developed a boutique, laneway style retail space within the centre. We were lucky enough to be commissioned to transform laneway hoardings into temporary mural spaces, making the transition for new retailers more welcoming and assisting in transforming the bland hoarding into a vibrant, distinct representation of The Strand and its surrounding area.
Dine, Shop, Play
Leveraging a spring/summer colour palette, the brief requested an integration of key aspects 'dine, shop and play' illustrated through a loose and cheerful style.
The outcome is a vibrant mix of colour and shape, subtly incorporating elements of The Strand and it's surrounds, promoting a contemporary retail environment.
Leveraging off the natural “grid” created by the ad-hoc hoarding panels, AW created a contemporary mural mixing paint, posters and textures. Leveraging The Strand’s visual brand, we developed a concept that meshed with The Strands colours and typographic styles, while integrating imagery of the beautiful, natural surrounds of Coolangatta – the location of the shopping centre.
The client provided feedback that the artwork was a success, creating an urban laneway feel that will work to attached an eclectic mix of retailers into the modern environment, with AW’s vision for the mural complementing the lifestyle premise of The Strand.
